Craft 4 Crafters Exeter

I’ve added this piece of sari silk and other ribbons to this month’s Monthly Marker.

Yesterday I went to the Crafts 4 Crafters show at Exeter Westpoint exhibition centre.  It is a mix of crafts - sewing, some knitting/crochet, paper crafts and various other crafts. My friend and I went from Poole with a local coach company which meant someone else did the driving, which was a bonus.

We stuck together until lunchtime and went our separate ways until due back to the coach. There were quite a few displays - large ones like one from South West Quilters and West Country Embroiders as these organisations have groups in Cornwall, Devon and Dorset (including the WCE one I go to in Poole). Both were celebrating significant anniversaries, SWQ their 40th and WCE their 50th. Project Linus were there and other local craft and self help organisations with craft as therapy.

The next 2 photos are collages of the quilt photos I took. The first one are a few of the entries for the 40th anniversary challenge.  The second were quilts from members, a couple were local houses quilts made during lockdown.  The elephant quilt was enormous and could be seen at the end of one of the aisles to make a big impression.

The West Country Embroiderers exhibit was of views of the South West Coast path, which runs from Poole around the coast of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall up to Minehead in Somerset. This was part of the Cornwall section.  It will be on tour around the area during this year in the three counties, but they were really good to see together.  Unfortunately I didn’t take part in this, which was a shame.

I also liked the feather embroideries that one group made, just seen it was made by Barnstaple group.

There were opportunities (of course) to shop.  A couple of the local charity groups were selling fat quarters of fabrics at £1 each, so our stash’s have increased!

There was a large woollen exhibit of ‘Alice in Wonderwool’ made by knitters in support of Devon Air Ambulance.

Not quite in the right order but it was a fantastic amount of work. I’m always amazed how people can get these projects together.

Lastly some shopping had to be done, so here’s my modest haul. (Sorry the coaster on the top right sneaked in the photo). I bought an Iris folding kit which is under a skein of hand dyed yarn, some fat quarters of fabric (sold by the charity stalls at £1 each) and lace, an acrylic stamp and stencil and some earring backs (as I’ve lost quite a few recently).

It was an enjoyable day out, good company, chatting to people and it had a nice atmosphere.  There will be a show in the autumn at Shepton Mallett but there’s no further details as yet.
